HRC Server update completed.
HRC have moved webservers. You should notice better throughput when trying to make posts, login or add comments.
Sometimes the odd image may go missing during the transfer process, so if you notice any errrors or missing images please let us know by email, or mention it in the shop, stating the exact page and nature of the error. Alternatively add a comment to this post.
Is should now be ok to submit new articles.
There are a number of photoshoots to be uploaded shortly, once the CD’s arrive in Ireland for processing. Apologies that these have taken such a long time to be dealt with, but it’s been a busy time for many of us recently.

Club Vacancy filled! (PR / Media Coordinator)
Your club needs someone to take on the role of PR and media coordinator. This would initially involve raising the profile of the club’s three races which it organises, i.e. the Spring Road Race, the NE Div’s, and the cyclocross at Stone Cross in the autumn. It is envisaged that the PR coordinator would generate contacts with the press and then arrange for a race report and suitable photographs to be submitted to the media for inclusion in the local press - and to the Websec for inclusion on the club website.
Race reports are already being written for the website and one or another of the club members is normally present at these 3 events taking photographs - so it’s not too onerous a task. The PR coordinator would be a great help by sharing the workload - and raising both the profile of the club and it’s races. There is scope for the PR coordinator to expand their role to make it as involved as they wanted - or he/she could keep their role more minimal by just concentrating on the 3 races.
Interested ? Got media or PR career aspirations ? Contact one of the committee members…..

El Presidente does the End to End
An article will appear on the site soon with pictures - but our club chairman, the one and only Paul Manancourt has just completed Dunnet Head to the Lizard in just under 6 days. Paul was well supported by his brother and at least 5000 calories per day! No doubt he will have some tales to tell, but describes Scotland as the best bit, and the only difficult bit was the last day through Cornwall with strong headwinds and one climb after the other. Well done Paul !

HAMBLETON ROAD RACE : 20th April 2008
Photos from Alan Waton and Stuart Grainger will be added to the article soon…. watch this space.
The race was another great success on a course much enjoyed by the riders. Steve Midd has as usual put on a well organised and well run event. Club members racing included Steve Cowley, Howard Botting, Jason Austin, Ian Mitchelson, Darren Binks and Rory McIntosh.
The course followed an anti-clockwise route taking in the Darlington Road, Danby Wiske, Streetlam, Yafforth and Standard Way - a total of 5.5 laps, totalling 55 miles.
It was a slightly overcast but fairly mild morning - and the main group left the Race HQ at Brompton Rugby Club at 11am, following the lead car along the neutralised section up to Darlington Road.
The main break of the day managed to escape from the head of the main field at the start of the second lap and contained the eventual race winner Colin Humphrey of Active Cycles-Corbridge, as well as David Robinson, Simon Baxter, Chris Mark, Tony Fawcett, Noel Clough, Craig Stevenson, John Cann, and Charlie Evans.
A number of counter attacks were made to try to close down the gap or to split the field further - including attacks involving Steve Cowley along with a couple of other riders near Danby Wiske, and also Howard Botting stretching out the main field on one of the later laps between Danby Wiske and Streetlam. Darren Binks was also prominent at the head of affairs doing the club colours proud in what was possibly one of his first road races.
On the penultimate lap a second small group including Phil Axe Sharrow RC, and Steve Fullerton Richmond and Darlington CC got away. Steve Cowley was very close to getting into the group as he had been riding aggressively and was part of the attacking that acted as the launch pad for this move.
The final race for the line saw Colin Humphrey surge clear of the leading break and on the long drag up to the finish line gained a gap of some 30 to 40 yards to cross the line alone. Colin can’t be one for the exuberant “arms raised” routine though! (see photos)
A hotly contested sprint decided the following places with David Robinson NFM RT just getting home ahead of Simon Baxter MTS Inkland - and with 4th, 5th and 6th place riders testing Andrew Frame and Co - the finish line judges, by crossing the line in quick succession including Chris Mark, Noel Clough, and Tony Fawcett.
Steve Fullerton then lead the chasing group across the line to claim 9th place.
Ian MItchelson also rode very well throughout the race, attacking on the last lap out of Danby Wiske, being joined by two others, and then holding on a constant 100yds in front of the main bunch - until sprinting clear to finish 20th. Steve Cowley and Howard Botting rode strongly and finished within the main group. Darren Binks pulled out after 4 laps to go and watch his family’s horses race at Sedgefield, whilst Jason and Rory, sampling road racing for the first time also made a good showing and gained valuable experience.
Once again Steve Midd managed the race very well and had assembled a very effective team of marshalls and helpers and motorbike outriders. A big thanks to all those who helped! Special mention goes from the riders to Kev at the Streetlam junction who marshalled very decisively - giving riders confidence to race through the junction.
The next road race organised by the club will be part of the North East Divisional Champonship series and will be held on the new Tunstall course. This will run over 83 miles and will be held on the 1st June. This course has been designed by HRC “directeur de course” maestro Steve Middleton. See Road Racing web page for course details…

The evolution of the jerseys
After much tinkering the old shirts are back and the Club History section has been migrated to the new link you can see above the header image…I’m sure at least one Hawkeye amongst you had already spotted the changes?
Time Trials have been dropped from the header list at present but will be linked back onto the description of cycling disciplines to be found on the club info pages. If this causes any upset, add on a comment below and I’ll have a re-think about site layout.
